We increase staff productivity

1. People are like machines

People in a company are as vital a resource as expensive equipment in production, which can provide both a stable increase in the company’s profit and its sharp reduction. It all depends on how competently the head of the company disposes of this resource.

In foreign practice, an increasing number of companies are reducing dissonant leaders in their staff and are increasingly attracting resonant leaders who are able to use emotional intelligence to influence the improvement of the effectiveness of their people.

People are like machines

Dissonant Leader is a leader who is unable to connect emotionally with the members of his work group. As a result, such a person creates dissonance in the team. This type of leadership creates an emotionally negative atmosphere, blocks people’s ideas, and has obvious authoritarian tendencies. People around you begin to feel nervous tension or fear, which crowds out inspiration. Synergy or a brain center is absolutely impossible under such conditions. Accordingly, the company does not use the full potential of its employees. This is the same as purchasing equipment using only 30% of its capacity, instead of the existing 100%.

If machines that require careful maintenance can bring great benefits, then why not treat people with the same attention.

Robert Owen

Dissonant leader and negative influences

Resonant leader — conveys a positive atmosphere, literally igniting people through your emotional intelligence. He not only has a rational head, he has a sensitive heart. That is why people around him are not afraid to share their ideas, increasingly revealing their potential. It is in such an atmosphere that strong ideas are born that help promote the company in existing or new markets.

While studying remotely at Case Western Reserve University (USA), I gained the conviction that: Leadership is not just about managing people. It lies in the relationship between the leader and the people around him. And these are not just beautiful words.

Daniel Goleman, a psychologist and science journalist, claims that intelligence quotient or IQ is responsible for 25% of job performance. This means that the remaining 75% comes from completely different factors. It is the emotional competence of the leader that is responsible for the high efficiency of his work group.

Executive search firm Egon Zehnder has found that executives who are fired or demoted have a fairly high IQ and extensive experience, but have a number of serious weaknesses: arrogance, uncooperativeness, inability to respond adequately to change or drive. rely only on reason and logic. And the most successful leaders remain calm in times of crisis, take criticism easily, are spontaneous, and are attentive to the needs of those who work with them.

2. Orthodox or your own unique management style

Dissonant leaders once formed their work pattern. They are satisfied with the performance of their knurled mechanism. Yes, of course, once or even twice, this mechanism worked and brought economic benefits and self-confidence to its creator. But when this specialist’s partners or colleagues offer a new, unexplored path to increasing efficiency, and this specialist rejects it because he is confident only in his own well-worn path, from that moment the entire company begins to stagnate. Moreover, this kind of leader tends to give rise to bureaucracy, and bureaucracy, as we have long known, slows down innovators.

You can never plan the future by analogy with the past.

Edmund Burke

Max Webber described three models of leadership. Traditional, charismatic, rational. However, there is now a new type of leadership because the old types are devoid of life and inspiration.

Unique team management style

Ukrainian companies need to get rid of leaders who feel satisfied and begin to object to any employee proposals for changes, as if everything is fine, because the past retrospective has already confirmed this. Now we need to be able to forget the past and look to the future. The future will be different. It is resonant leaders who are able to easily adapt to future prospects and new trends. In addition to the fact that these people do not limit the flow of ideas from their team, they also have no boundaries in relation to self-development.

The leader of the new generation is a coach, mentor (guru) and a person who makes solutions to any problem. Instead of a rigid, orthodox leadership style, a leader develops his own unique style.

I am sure that the problem of most Ukrainian leaders is the fear of being invulnerable. Since school, we have become accustomed to the fact that learning is a risk, and risk makes us vulnerable, sometimes insecure. People are afraid to touch the source of knowledge and may discover their ignorance on a certain issue. It is much easier to abandon all this and follow the well-worn path, thus ignoring the pragmatic ideas of others. Thus, the leader begins to believe that he is invincible.

When I stop learning new things and start pitting the past against the future, I don't move forward.

Jack Welch

It is actually extremely difficult for true resonant leaders to implement emotional intelligence in their work with people. The reason for this may be the authoritarian management style of management. And often it comes to conflict. However, the key to any progress at all times has been conflict. Accordingly, it is extremely important to defend your ideology to the end.

A leader is a person who expresses the interests of the staff

Leader today is a person who expresses the interests of the people. The modern leader has a constantly increasing interest in his subordinates. He uses emotions to force people to imitate his successful example.

3. Formula for success for a leader

Training for a Successful Leader

Academician Reg Revans has developed a training formula that a successful leader can implement in his team.

L = P + Q

Where:

  • L – learning;
  • Q – the opportunity to ask frank questions
  • P - a combination of programmed knowledge - this is something established, standardized; (questions) - allows us to expand the established boundaries, which is achieved by using emotional intelligence in our work group.

4. Examples of (resonant) leaders using emotional intelligence

Richard Branson is a leader with intelligence

  • Jack Welch of GE
  • Richard Branson of Virgin
  • Percy Barnevika of Asea Brown Boveri

These leaders ignore the cult of personality; they are no longer focused solely on profit. These leaders place emphasis on the correct use of the talents of a certain group of people and the constant improvement of their abilities, which is achieved through emotional intelligence.

5. Non-material motivation

It is also important to mention that non-material motivation of staff is becoming increasingly important. Yes, salary is the first factor, but by competing for personnel only by increasing salaries, the company risks driving itself into losses, because “someone will always offer more” and:

Competing for employees only by salary level is a direct path to increasing costs, as a result of reducing profitability and profits, and possibly price competitiveness.

Therefore, one of the most important tasks of a leader is to motivate staff, the key to which is creating a magnetic mission of the company, which should be clear, inspire and attract people, because.

Everyone wants to be involved in something bigger - to be a part of it.

The leader's role is to create a compelling vision and execute it.

Additionally,

People want to be proud of what they do.

To do this, your product/service must be “worthy” so that people are not ashamed of what they do.

The best packaging among modern tools for both the vision of the company’s mission and the product and service is a website accessible to both clients and partners, and all your employees, which contains sections such as “About the company”, sometimes sections for Employees and even a closed entrance for them, which reflects its inspiring mission, as well as a catalog that displays products or services. The packaging of which can improve the perception and value in the eyes of the visitor up to 2 times. Therefore, the website is now not only an image component of the brand and a sales tool that can influence the productivity of the call center by giving them more requests, but also a tool for creating a magnetic brand that people in any role want to be involved in, incl. and as employees and their non-material motivation.
